Jackie Robinson Day

April 15 was again Jackie Robinson day, but instead of allowing players who wanted to wear his retired number 42, all players and coaches in Major League Baseball wore the number for the day.

American Flag Caps

Similar to the design introduced last year, special caps with an American flag superimposed on the logo were worn for Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July weekend.  While last year's caps were navy, the 2009 edition was red, although a lighter shade of red than the one the Diamondbacks usually wear.

In addition to the red flag caps, all teams wore a special patch on the jerseys and helmets on July 4 to raise awareness for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).  Gehrig gave his famous "Luckiest man on earth" speach on July 4, 1939.
